Dear Families,
Character Recognition Assembly:
Today, we had our third character recognition assembly to celebrate November’s character trait of Courage – “We do the right thing, even when it’s difficult.”
Congratulations to our recipients Raelynn and Connor. I am so proud of you both for striving to be THE BEST YOU CAN BE in and out of the classroom. Continue on this path, and you’ll succeed in all that you set out to do!
Coleton:
Speaking of courage, thank you to Coleton for sharing this meaningful magnet with me! It says, "All of our dreams can come true if we have the COURAGE to pursue them!"
You're absolutely right Coleton ...it's important to step outside our comfort zones and believe in ourselves. If we don't, we may never realize the things we can accomplish if we TRY!!
"Andy is helping his community by collecting pop cans for recycling. On the first block he visits, he finds 5 cans. On the second blocks he finds 9 cans. He finds 14 cans on the third block, and 20 cans on the fourth block. If this pattern continues, how many cans will Andy find on the seventh block?"
We will be wrapping up our patterning and algebra unit soon and a review sheet will come home to practice questions in preparation for an assessment! Stay tuned :)
Language:
In writing, students listened to the book The Dot & You Hold Me Up. As a culminating task, they answered the following: How can you make your mark this school year?
Their responses were heart-soaring!! We spent quality time sharing these and you too will have an opportunity to see them when we're finished with them in class.
The author shares her powerful vision which I absolutely loved! It connects well with how I wish for my students to treat their peers, teachers, friends, and family.
McLaren Art Workshop:
A friendly reminder that on Monday from 12:10 - 3:10 p.m., my class will be participating in this art workshop. Thank you to the families who sent in their photo permission form.
EXCITING NEWS!! Our class will be leading next month’s character recognition assembly which will be taking place on Thursday December 19th at 9:15 a.m. All families are welcome to attend!
Mark it down into your calendars, you won’t want to miss this exciting event!
We will be working hard in class to prepare for this and it will certainly help build upon our growing skills for public speaking and presenting.
Inspiration for Empathy:
Take a moment to watch this oh so inspiring video which displays what the heart of empathy looks like, sounds like, and feels like! Students were so moved by Mr. Jenson's kindness.
Mindfulness:
Watch! Listen! Learn! Having a growth mindset is something we can all strive towards incorporating into our daily lives! Each week, I introduce our class to a new growth mindset which helps set a positive and peaceful tone to our learning!
Thank you to all the boys and girls who have contributed to this. I have many sticky notes on my chalkboard waiting to be posted for our weekly growth mindset. It is really powerful when these thoughts, words, and actions come from my students. I love it!!
Growth Mindset:
Can you believe that we’re soon into the month of December?! It’s been a mixed up month weather-wise hasn't it? First, we had lots of snow and the kids were loving it with building structures outside. But then this week, we've experienced 'warmer' temperatures and precipitation! We'll see what the weekend brings. I appreciate all my families providing the appropriate attire so your child is prepared for any event weather wise.

Math:
This week, student's worked on a variety of math word problems. I have posted one below for you to discuss with your child. Ask: What strategies did you use to solve?"Andy is helping his community by collecting pop cans for recycling. On the first block he visits, he finds 5 cans. On the second blocks he finds 9 cans. Mindfulness with Mrs. Kutcy's Class:
On Monday, we had the pleasure of having Mrs. Kutcy's SK/grade 1's join our class to participate in brain gym and meditation. My kids were excited as many had siblings joining us so they could be together for a period. It was a peaceful and meaningful experience for us all!
It is my goal to spread this mindfulness strategy to as many classes at Nottawa as possible because I have experienced the many benefits for students who I have taught and how it has positively impacted their lives. Yes! The benefits are immeasurable and abundant!
Thank you to Mrs. Kutcy for showing my students some of your breathing techniques that you use in your class! We enjoyed trying out candle breath :)

As a class we discussed the message in the video and we have learned that ...
Let us all work towards accepting and embracing others for who they truly are and offer our love and support to them!
