Dear Families,
It was wonderful meeting with all my students' families this week.  Thank you for taking the time to attend and help celebrate and enjoy all your child's achievements thus far in the school year!

I am extremely proud of each student as they clearly, confidently, and calmly led his or her conference by sharing their self-assessment (Progress Report), personal goals, and their "Star" and "Arrow" pieces of work.  It was their chance to shine and they certainly lit up our hearts and minds!

Throughout the conferences, I experienced some heart-warming moments with parents and I really appreciate and value all your positive and constructive feedback.  I will use it to continue to provide my best as an educator for your child's academic, social, and behavioural needs.  Meeting the needs of my students is of utmost importance to me and I will always work hard to ensure they receive a compassionate, caring, and safe environment to learn in.

Math:
This week, we continued our learning about patterning.  The goal has been for your child to identify, describe, extend, and create repeating, growing, and shrinking patterns.  For repeating patterns, the focus is on naming attributes of patterns and how those attributes change.  The focus for growing or shrinking patterns is to state the pattern rule: the start number and the amount that is added or subtracted each term.

Students practiced this in their "Extra Math Homework" earlier this week.  Below is a photo of the students using pattern blocks to create repeating patterns with 2 or more attributes and discussing the pattern rule.

Please ask your child what the pattern rule was for Sabrina's numeric pattern.  They were then expected to create their own numeric pattern using Sabrina's rule, but they were encouraged to use numbers in the 100's, 1,000's, or 10, 000's.

Language:
Since the beginning of our school year, there has been an emphasis on mindfulness and what it means.  In my lesson this week, I shared a video (see below) to get their schema going.

After the video, I had students work in pairs to complete an activity where they classified, sorted, and provided their own examples of mindful and unmindful behaviours.  They really enjoyed this experience.

My main goal for this lesson and importance of it is for my students to continue putting mindful behaviours into their thoughts, words, and ultimately their actions which will make the difference in their daily life!  Our class is filled with mindful students!

Social Studies:
The students are working hard on their projects using google slides to research groups of people in early Canada (grade 3's) and provinces & territories (grade 4's).  I'm so proud of them!!  Thank you to families who have been supporting your child in this endeavour, it is making a difference in their research and inquiry skills.  We are always so excited to do project based learning!

Character Recognition Assembly:
Next Fri. Nov. 29th at 1:40 p.m., we will be celebrating November’s character trait of Courage – “We do the right thing even when it’s difficult!”

Morning Show:  @ 11:30 a.m.
Evening Show:  @ 6:30 p.m.

In case of a snow day, our snow date is scheduled for: Thurs. Dec. 12th with the morning and evening shows at the same times listed above.

Students have been working hard in music classes to prepare for this performance!  Please remind your child to practice singing "Let it Be Christmas" and playing their recorder to the song "Silent Night."

It is very important that they are familiar with the lyrics and the notes on their recorder as they will be performing these songs with Mr. Morin on the 11th for the concert.

Kali:
This week, we welcomed a new addition to our class family!  We are delighted to have Kali and her parents join our Nottawa Community!  We are so excited and happy to have you.

The children have been extremely warm and inviting and have made Kali feel right at home :)  I'm so proud of everyone!  Thank you for your acts of kindness boys and girls, it truly warms my heart knowing I have the MOST compassionate and caring students.

A special mention to Liam who knew Kali's first day was on Tuesday, so he took it upon himself to create a welcome message and picture for her.  How sweet!!  I know Kali will cherish this act of kindness always.

Remember boys and girls ...

Thank you for making Kali's first week with us such a positive one!!!  Her dad shared with me at the end of the day on Thursday just how appreciative he is of everyone :)

Mindfulness:
The kids are really drawn to Ed Sheeran as they are fond of his music.  So this week’s mindfulness focuses on one of their favourite musicians.  Take a moment to listen to this video and think about the following questions:

What did you learn from Ed’s wise words? How can you incorporate this in your life?

In life, unfortunately more often than not, we will all experience some form of hurt because of who we are.  Don’t let others words get you down.  Easier said than done, but trust me, let’s embrace our quirks and BE OURSELVES!

There is only one YOU, stand UP, and shout, “I am worthy!  I am happy just the way I am!”  Together, we can make a difference and accept one another as we are!

Yearbook Cover Contest:
Great job to the boys and girls who made an entry for the yearbook contest.  I have handed those to Mr. Durance and we will see whose gets voted in.  Your efforts are appreciated!
