Dear Families,
Week #10 - check! We've continued to be on a roll with distance learning! This week's completed tasks really meant a lot to me as I thoroughly enjoyed reading students' responses to Black Lives Matter and the connections they made to our novel study.
Social justice is a topic that is very near and dear to me. Finding ways to help inform and educate my students about history (Residential Schools, Black History Month, Bullying, Empathy etc ...) and thinking of ways we can BE BETTER and DO MORE to help our world is something I will always strive for.
Thank you boys and girls for taking the time and HEART to share your thoughts and opinions in your writing activities this week! You are making a difference by just being YOU!!
In the virtual tour, I could FEEL CONNOR'S PASSION with every thought, word, and action! I know he's left an impact and has helped inspire his peers to find theirs and let it shine!!
A very big thank you to Mrs. Olsen as well who is a busy Mom of two young boys (Connor and Brody) and all her other responsibilities on the farm. Thank you for helping Connor with his special presentation and actively participating in the Google Meet as well! Your calm, kind, and caring personality are something that we ALL VALUE AND APPRECIATE!!
Google Meet - Virtual Tour with Georgian Humane Society:
Our next Google Meet will take place on Tues. Jun. 16th at 9:00 a.m. (NOT MONDAY) instead of Monday because I have invited a special guest to host a virtual tour! Yes, that's right! Molly from the Georgian Humane Society is going to do a very special presentation about Empathy and Compassion and we will also learn about this amazing organization! I'm sure many of you have heard of it and maybe even adopted a pet or know someone who has from there :)
Additionally, I have invited my former colleague and friend Mrs. Kimberley's (see photo below of us) grade 3/4 class from New Lowell (my previous school that I taught at for 3 years) to join us too!! As teachers, we have been collaborating closely during distance learning and I wanted to share this experience with her class too. They're VERY EXCITED! It'll be very memorable for us all!
GTHS Colouring Contest for Kids:

Talent Show:
Did you get to see the amazing talents of our fellow Nighthawks earlier this week!!?! Thank you to Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. O, Mrs. McIntyre, and Ms. Stewart for putting together a google slides presentation to show case ALL THE WONDERFUL TALENTS and SKILLS that our staff, students, and parents have!
A special mention to Liam, Sidney, Mia, Hannah, Cameron, Brayden, and Kali for organizing and displaying their talents for everyone to admire and enjoy! I posted these entries into our weekly agenda for us all to see! I certainly was smiling as I watched each of them perform!! It takes a lot of courage and hard work! I'm so proud of their presentations and efforts, way to go!! As always, thank you parents for doing the videotaping and sending it to Mrs. Johnson!
Art Project:
Thank you to ALL the students who uploaded and shared their art inspired by Gregg Segal! I received Cameron and Thomas' via email so I'm posting those for you to enjoy :)
It was a JOY to see ALL THE ITEMS that have been meaningful to students during distance learning and to help cope through this pandemic. There were many items that I could relate to and have enjoyed as well while being at home (e.g., basketball, books, laptop, running shoes, puzzles, etc ...).
Thank you to parents for taking the time to help your child organize and display their items in a creative way!! The photographs turned out very well :)
Growth Mindset:
Thank you Orin for sharing this powerful quote (below) in your language activity this week. It's a great reminder for us all! Nelson Mandela is a personal hero of mine and someone I admire greatly!!
We must spread LOVE because that is what we were born to do, not hate. We came into this world with our loving parents who nurtured us so that when we grew up, we would BE KIND, COMPASSIONATE, and HELPFUL which I am proud to say my students are!!
Let's not settle or be complacent, we can continue to make this world BRIGHTER and BETTER with each of our thoughts, words, and actions!!
